Lester Holt Announces Departure from 'NBC Nightly News' Anchor Position

NBC's longstanding anchor, Lester Holt, shared on Monday his decision to step down from the anchor position at 'NBC Nightly News' following a successful decade in the role. This announcement marks a significant transition for Holt, who has been a prominent figure in the network's flagship evening newscast.

Transitioning from 'NBC Nightly News' to 'Dateline'

Expressing gratitude for his 10-year tenure, Holt conveyed his appreciation in a note released by NBC News. "After 10 years, 17 if you include my years on the weekends, the time has come for me to step away from my role as anchor of 'Nightly News,'" Holt stated. He added, "It has truly been the honor of a lifetime to work with each of you every day, keeping journalism as our true north and our viewers at the center of everything we do."

Holt intends to continue leading 'NBC Nightly News' until "around the start of summer," before embarking on a full-time commitment to 'Dateline,' another NBC program he currently hosts.

While Holt's departure is set, NBC News has not announced his successor at this time.
