Italy’s Meloni defends Vance’s Munich speech chastising Europe for American liberal leftism

Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni came to Vice President JD Vance’s defense on Saturday, criticizing the “elites” for their outrage at Vance’s speech at the Munich Security Conference last week.

Meloni denounced the spread of “American liberal leftism” in Europe and commended Vance for highlighting the continent's major threats in his speech.

Support for Identity and Democracy

During her virtual address at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Washington, Meloni emphasized that Vance was addressing profound issues such as identity, democracy, and freedom of speech.

Vance's 'America First' rhetoric in Munich shocked European leaders, leaving them uncertain about U.S. strategies for resolving the conflict in Ukraine.

Echoing Vance and Trump

Meloni echoed Vance and former President Donald Trump's viewpoints, asserting that Europe has been negatively impacted by 'wokeness,' bureaucracy, and mercantilism.

She criticized those who were quick to condemn Vance, suggesting that if similar concern had been shown for Europe's strategic autonomy, economic ties to autocratic regimes, and border security threatened by illegal migration, the continent would be stronger today.
