Jane Fonda Delivers Powerful Political Message at SAG Awards

The 31st Screen Actors Guild Awards witnessed a moment of fiery political resistance courtesy of Jane Fonda. Host Kristen Bell set the stage for the ceremony, streamed live on Netflix from the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles, celebrating the aspirational spirit of actors in the city.

Jane Fonda's Political Statement

Being honored with the guild's Life Achievement Award, Fonda, a renowned activist, seized the spotlight for a powerful protest. While not directly naming President Donald Trump, Fonda alluded to the current political climate.

“We are in our documentary moment,” Fonda declared. “This is it. And it’s not a rehearsal.” She emphasized that being 'woke' simply means caring for others and highlighted the impending challenges affecting many individuals.

“A whole lot of people are going to be hurt by what’s happening, by what’s coming our way,” Fonda warned. “We are going to need a big tent to resist what’s coming at us.”

The SAG Awards unfolded amidst the aftermath of the devastating wildfires that ravaged California in early January. These wildfires led to the cancellation of the in-person nominations announcement and the initiation of a disaster relief fund for affected SAG-AFTRA members.

Host Kristen Bell honored attending firefighters as heroes, amidst a galaxy of stars, referring to them as “the most attractive tables” in the venue.
